When does the Workshop start and End?
The start of the next session will be announced here - don't miss it!

A session starts sprinting together on the same day. The last day to join a session is 7 days after it has started. A session lasts for 1 entire month (4 weeks / 30 days).

The first step (lesson) goes live on the first day. Then, every day at lest one more step will be released - up until week 2 when the last step is shared. You can finish your sprint within these first 2 weeks or take more time - until the last week of the session, week 4. You may do more than one sprint per session - but you are not required to stay after you are done!

The discussion board of your session will be open 24/7 for the entire time.

We make sure to stay connected with the other participants afterwards and you can download all your work!
How much content is there?
We have broken down the original 5-day Design Sprint Process into 18 concrete steps. No exercises are added or changed from the original version. We made some clever adjustments to make it work online and integrated feedback loops.

There are two kinds of content:
  1. Concrete Design Sprint Steps that include videos that feature Daniel Bartel
  2. The work done by each of the participants in the session, including people like you

We release a new step of the Online Design Sprint process every other day for the first three weeks (or 21 days) of the workshop. Each step also involves references and links for further readings. Each step comes with a set of questions that challenge you to explore how the lesson applies to your own Sprint. Think of each question as a call-to-action: to share your answers and insights on the discussion board. Every participant is sharing their work, generously, repeatedly, with confidence.

Completing a step takes between 45 minutes and 3 hours, depending on the step and your reaction to the fruitful comments of others.

The workshop revolves around your sharing, your commenting and your insights. Our 24/7 discussion board is a hotbed of connection and wisdom.

It's called a workshop because this is where the real work happens. You'll soon discover just how much you have in common with others on this journey, even if they live in a different country, serve a difference audience and have access to different resources. This diversity is hard to find anywhere else.

We will also hold regular Live Sessions like Welcome Calls, Open Q&A. You will have access to Bonus Content on "sprinting remote & in virtual Teams", "Business Model Design" and "Lean Impact"!
WHAT IS A DESIGN SPRINT?     What is a "Challenge"?
There are many different methodologies that help innovating teams be more productive and efficient. One of the most popular frameworks that’s heavily focused on teamwork and collaboration with the target audience is the Design Sprint. It’s a “greatest hits” of business strategy, innovation, behavior science, design thinking, and more—packaged into a battle-tested process that anyone can use! It was developed by Jake Knapp and covered in his best-selling book "Sprint".

The Design Sprint is a process for testing any idea, and quickly creating a prototype to test with real users. This 90-seconds Video tells it all. Just ignore the 5-day-structure and the team structure, as this online workshop will work on a different and much more flexible clock:

For a Deep Dive, watch this 8min Summary or 45min Talk by the Design Sprint creator - or read the first chapters of his bestseller "Sprint".

A great article on "should you be running them" can be found here.

Design Sprints can be used for Large Software Products, Business Model Validation, App Design, Organisational Change Projects, Web Projects, Hardware Products, Sales and Marketing Projects, New startup ideas Innovation Projects, NGOs, Digital Transformation, Individual creative projects and much much more!

You will
  • Clarify the problem at hand, and identify the needs of potential users
  • Explore solutions through brainstorming and sketching exercises
  • Distill your ideas into one or two solutions that you can test
  • Prototype your solution and bring it to life
  • Test the prototype the solution with people who would use it

We have seen Teams re-designing a travel experience, solving the bad utilization of meeting rooms, re-designing their website, fixing bottlenecks in the sales journey, creating an internal car-sharing system for electric cars, creating new value for a specific target group, designing volunteer-engagement, testing a new chat bot idea and so on.

You can set your Design Sprint challenge before the workshop starts or during the first steps. A challenge could be as big as reinventing the wheel or as small as improving an email campaign. It brings people together to make big steps towards finding the right solution, even for internal quests at work.

The Outcomes are amazing! Have your next breakthrough and quick results with a Design Sprint and solve problems at an incredible speed.  You don't need to be a Design Thinker or Expert. Find more results documented on sprintstories.com.

Traditional Design Sprints require high-intensity workshops facilitated by an Expert for five full continuous days. Usually in a well-prepared workspace, with all participants being in one location. We make it possible to remove all these constraints - this is why we have created The Online Design Sprint.

If this sounds like something for you, continue at the homepage.
What's the difference between this Online workshop and other online courses?
This is the only place to engage with the content.

Here, we don't simply teach. We execute the Design Sprint steps on your challenge or idea.

Here, you will learn how to do a Design Sprint by actually doing it on your project and at your own pace.

Here, you can not only ask questions under each step, but also engage with many other participants and their work

Here, you see a lot of real-life examples of others.

Here, you get a lot of feedback and clues on every step from other participants and coaches.

Here, you are motivated finish the workshop (your Sprint) because there is peer accountability.

Here, you re-start after a Sprint as many times you want during the workshop period.

Here, you meet real people, make friends.

Here are no bots or automated messages that nudge you.

What is it like to take the workshop?
This workshop will reward the time you're able to put into it.

You can plan on devoting time to this workshop every other day  — you'll watch the video lesson and then contribute to the designated online discussion board. You can adjust the pace to suit your schedule. If you miss a day or two, you can always catch up, because the steps are always available throughout the session and the discussion continues. You may also decide to only sprint on the weekends.

In the steps, Daniel will share different frameworks for approaching the Design Sprint work and real-life examples to help you understand and see how it applies to your idea. He will prompt you for each step to consider, respond to and share your results for on the discussion boards.

Note, that you will not be thought a lot of theory of a Design Sprint but you will actually run one (or more). Design Sprints on a real challenge that you can bring or define at the beginning of this workshop. For every step we will also link to easy-to-understand instructions and refer to the relevant book pages.

How does the discussion board work?
We're using a platform that supports group discussions and one-on-one conversation. See some example setups here.

The Online Design Sprint team sets up categories, which will be labeled according to the Design Sprint steps to be discussed.

In each category, everyone will be able to create more specific topics of discussion, and to respond to the results of others. These boards are open 24/7, providing a secure place to have conversations within the workshop community with peers from all over the world, from different industries and with different backgrounds.

The Online Design Sprint has a dedicated team of coaches who help focus discussions and address concerns (or inappropriate behaviour). But there is no moderator or grading rubric—you'll be in charge of when and how generously you interact with others.

Once the workshop ends, the work you’ve done and the connections you’ve made with others are likely to have enough momentum to keep moving. Many participants form mastermind groups or have other ways of continuing to support each other. And you will be able to download all your created content.

We've seen groups like these last for years, with people getting on airplanes to meet in person. We'll provide guidance on maintaining these connections when the workshop ends.
What if I don't have a Challenge to discuss yet (or am bound by an NDA)?
It's ok if you're in between jobs or still sketching out the Sprint Challenge. And we certainly don't want anyone to break any Non-Disclosure Agreements. The workshop begins with defining this Challenge driven by a big problem you want to solve or an Idea your team wants to test.

The discussions are a mix of what you’re noticing in the world and how you can apply the steps to your immediate work. We’ve found those kind of discussion helpful in solidifying the Design Sprint process and making the learnings them more memorable.

If you're unable to discuss specifics of your current project, you can mentally outline an imaginary one that is a reasonably possible option in your future (if you're in between jobs), or one that has parallels to your current organization (if you're under an NDA). This still enables you to takeaway the core concepts and ideas in the workshop. Heck, you can even sign up with a fake profile name!

It might feel uncomfortable at first, but definitely engage with others in the discussion boards. In other online workshops we’ve participated, we’ve noticed something extraordinary: The people who got the most out of it spent the majority of their time helping others with their work. It turns out that teaching others is even more productive than learning.

The important thing isn't merely to watch the videos. It's to discover insights about how to apply the concepts of Design Sprints to real-world scenarios. And you can do this whether or not you're able to talk about your own actual, current project.
DO I PARTICIPATE ALONE OR WITH A TEAM?
If you are on your own, you can do this workshop well! It is totally suited for solo Sprinters.

If you are a small team of up to four people, you can also join the workshop and work together.

The full ticket purchaser will be in the lead. You may share your screen or the login credentials. But you can only work on one project at a time.
Why does the course cost as much as it does?
We're charging more than other online courses for a simple reason: We want committed participants and this is a workshop, not a course. No one in The Online Design Sprint is browsing around or hoping for a quick hit. You'll be surrounded by other people and coaches willing to do the work and contribute along the way.

In the real world, you need at least 5 team members and an investment of 7.000+ Euro for a Facilitator. For the price of a half-day training you get everything here to create the same results - on your own or with a small team!
Do you offer financial aid?
If you have a social / mission-driven project, go here.

We offer Payment in 3 Installments. The total will be more expensive than paying the full price directly. Get started by entering the Code "DOWN PAYMENT" when you apply.
IS THE WORKSHOP ACCREDITED? ARE THERE EXAMS?
Proudly, no.

Accreditation makes sense for a certain kind of institution delivering a certain kind of education. But we're not willing to build a test-and-measure culture, not willing to embrace an ancient-yet-standard curriculum, and mostly, we're not willing to distrust our students.

We'll be delighted to offer you a digital certificate of completion upon request when the workshop is successfully completed, and even better, we encourage you to find a cohort in The Online Design Sprint who will personally vouch for your contributions.

And no grades, either. We feel really strongly that a test-and-measure culture is ruining education.

After a few hours of work, you’ll have created dozens (perhaps hundreds) of ideas, approaches and insights. And as you know, the learning and creation you do yourself is the work that really sticks. You will work on your own Design Sprint Challenge!

Your new project might not work. Not the first time. Maybe not the second time. But with Design Sprints, we’re teaching you a process, a method to start on the journey of validating something, discovering something worth doing.

Here is the secret of Design Sprints: The only one to judge in the end are your first five (or more) users that will receive your prototype in the last third of this workshop - giving you real feedback and insights that you would not gain from just building your idea, from any decision maker, team members, coaches or other participants.
HOW BIG IS THE WORKLOAD?  How Many Hours Does the Sprint take?
The workload will not vary much from an original 5-day Design Sprint. The Sprint itself takes in total 30 working hours. Additionally, preparation (about 4 hours) and wrap-up (1 hour) should be considered. As you spend time on giving and receiving valuable feedback, another total of about 8 hours needs to be invested. If this is your first Design Sprint, you will need another 2 hours in total to read the instructions of each step.

Combined, the workload is about 40 hours per participant. If you are a small team sharing the workload or have experience with the Sprint process or do only specific parts of the Design Sprint, you can cut time by up to 50%!

Some ideas how you can schedule and adjust it to your own pace and schedule: If you dedicate 1 full day per week for your Online Design Sprint (or 2 evenings of 4 hours each), you will be done in about 6 weeks. When you sprint 2 full days a week (or e.g. 2 evenings of 4 hours each and 1 day on the weekend), you will finish your Sprint in just 3 weeks!

The Online Design Sprint is designed in a way that you can't fall behind or miss anything!

Within the workshop period, you can even run another Design Sprint after finishing the first one. Or even more, depending on the learnings from the previous Sprint you may not need to run thru the whole process but e.g. just the last third.

Reserve some time for optional live Q&A webinars, bonus lessons and networking!

The more time you invest, the more you get out of this experience.
Can I get a certificate at the end?
Upon request attendees receive a certificate as a PDF, suitable for printing and framing.
How long does the discussion board stay active?
The discussion board will stay up for two entire months. We'll provide guidance on maintaining connections with other participants. You will be able to download all your content and comments during the entire session period.
Can I post confidential materials on the discussion board?
The rules of our discussion board are:
  • Contribute more than you ask for.
  • Be kind.
  • What is said here, stays here.

With that said, please use your best judgment. If it's not something you can happily post online, best to disguise the details before you post it here.
Will Daniel answer all of my questions?
Definitely not. And the good news is that you don't need him to. The workshop is designed to give you a compass and a structure, not a map. The map, the details of your particular situation… that's all up to you. We hope The Online Design Sprint will help empower your decisions along the way.
Is there an affiliate program?
There isn't. We're hoping that if you find it useful, you'll happily spread the word to your friends and colleagues. Your referrals will be cashed as karma points at the right time.
How much experience do I need to take the workshop?
None. This workshop doesn’t require prerequisites or prior knowledge. Bring your curiosity and generosity and that’s more than enough. We will start at the very beginning, that is defining the challenge you want to solve during the Online Design Sprint.

We recommend having a copy of the original Design Sprint book by Jake Knapp et al. Just read the first pages in advance -  throughout the workshop each step we will provide you with the page numbers to read. It won't be much to read, we promise!

For participants that don't have the book or want some variations: No worries, we have you covered with the best instructions for each step that are out there on the world wide web.

The Online Design Sprint is offered in English-only. In order for participants to get the most out of the experience, the ability to write and read in English is mandatory. This online workshop doesn’t require prerequisites or prior knowledge on "Design Sprints".
How to convince my Boss?
An Online Design Sprint does not demand your full-day attention by a five or more persons and you get the same results with the fraction of the costs. This article gives more hints on how to convince senior management doing Design Sprints.
